Marianne Shifrin

Marianne Shifrin was recently appointed principal clarinet of the New Mexico Philharmonic. She has also been a member of the Arizona Opera Orchestra since 2010. Previously, Marianne held positions with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra in Colorado, and the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic. She is a frequent guest musician with many orchestras in Arizona and Colorado, such as the Tucson, Phoenix, and Colorado Symphonies, and the Colorado Springs Philharmonic. She has played under such conductors as Bernard Haitink, James Conlon, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Leonard Slatkin, David Robertson, and David Zinman. Marianne has performed at the Music Academy of the West, and the Aspen, Sarasota, Chautauqua, and Bowdoin music festivals. During the summers, Marianne has been performing with the Missouri Symphony since 2009, and the Artosphere Festival Orchestra in Fayetteville, Arkansas, since 2011. Marianne is a member of Astraios, a national network of chamber musicians, and is clarinetist with the August Winds, a Dallas-based wind quintet. Marianne received her Bachelor of Music degree and a Performer Diploma from Indiana University and her Master of Music degree from Yale University. Her principal teachers include Eli Eban, David Shifrin, and Bil Jackson.
