Ishan Loomba, piano

Eleven-year-old pianist, Ishan Loomba, discovered his love of music at a very young age, picking up familiar tunes at his toy piano and listening to everything from Celtic to Classical music. Ishan has been taking private piano lessons since 2007. He gave his debut solo piano recital at UNM’s Keller Hall when he was eight, playing compositions by Bach, Chopin, and Haydn. In 2009, Ishan participated in the Golden Key Music Festival performing at Carnegie Hall, New York. Ishan has won several prizes at competitions including New Mexico Hey Mozart! Composition Competition and Central District Honors Audition. His 2011-12 highlights include his second solo recital at Keller Hall and performing the Concerto in F-minor by Bach with the Sunday Chatter chamber orchestra.  Ishan is particularly moved by the music of J.S. Bach and Beethoven, his favorite composers. The most significant artistic influence on his musical personality derives from performers he enjoys, particularly Glenn Gould, Alicia de Larrocha, and Martha Argerich.

Ishan is a student of Dr. Tatiana Vetrinskaya at the New Mexico School of Music, with whom he has studied since 2008. Since Fall 2012, he has also been studying with Dr. Carol Leone at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.  He also studies music theory and composition with Dr. Jose Luis Hurtado at University of New Mexico.  Ishan is in the 6th grade at Desert Willow Family School. In addition to playing the piano and listening to music, he loves riding his bike, going camping, rock climbing, and hiking.
