Maria Vigil is a junior at Albuquerque Academy, which she has attended since eighth grade. She has been playing piano for thirteen years, since the age of four. She has competed in local and regional competitions since the age of nine, in both the Honors Auditions and the MTNA Junior/Senior Performance Competitions. This past November, she received an Honorable Mention in the MTNA Senior performance Competition in Santa Fe, playing a program which included the first movement of Beethoven’s Waldstein Sonata and Two Rachmaninoff Preludes, in addition to other selections of music. She plans to continue competing on piano in the future. In addition to playing piano, she is also involved in several choral groups at the Academy, one of which will be performing at Carnegie Hall in March, 2013. She hopes to study medicine in college and become a medical professional, but will undoubtedly continue to include music as an integral part of her life. Maria’s parents are Dr. Anthony and Kristin Vigil. Her piano teacher is Lawrence Blind.
